EDUCATION

Joana Sá Couto is an anthropologist, with a master's degree in Environmental and Sustainability Studies and a PhD candidate in Climate Change and Sustainable Development Policies, at the Institute of Social Sciences in Universidade de Lisboa. She has been doing ethnographic work with the Portuguese fishing communities of Setúbal and Sesimbra, focusing on issues of local knowledge and how labour shapes human relationship with nature. Her personal and professional interests focus on issues of justice, dignity and sustainability, present in her writing and engagement in the field. She is also interested in the social movements for just transitions and the rights of local communities. She has a lot of experience with participatory methodologies and stakeholder engagement.
